1 Hotels South Beach, the debut property of the new hospitality brand launched by Barry Sternlicht, former CEO of Starwood Hotels & Resorts, benefits from experience. The beachfront property has been refitted by New York-based Meyer Davis studio to reflect the brand’s wholesome ethos.

As such, the design – which veers away from the local art-deco style – is elegantly understated, with a focus on organic and natural materials, such as locally sourced coral stone and an array of reclaimed woods. The hotel is also equipped with a series of environmentally friendly devices, such as the water purification system, Triple Clear, and a fleet of Tesla electric cars offering guests free rides within a three-mile radius. There is no scrimping on luxury, of course; four swimming pools (including one on the roof), a lobby bar, a poolside eatery and a restaurant are at when, with a wellness centre and spa opening soon.
