BOUTIQUE DESIGN – HOTEL TRITON UNVEILS REFRESH

Liubasha Rose and her team at Miami-based Rose Ink Workshop are set to complete the interior renovation of San Francisco’s historic Hotel Triton. Originally constructed in 1913, the hotel features a new look that stays true to the property’s past while balancing modern elements following the year-long, $6 million refresh.

The updated lobby showcases a mural that was found behind walls during demolition. The artwork was crafted by impressionist artist Jon Oshanna in the 1940s, and it displays Mission Dolores, San Francisco’s oldest intact Mission in California and the oldest building in the city. Designers used the Danish concept of “Hygge,” a feeling of coziness and comfort, throughout the space, which is laden with found objects, an extensive art collection and assorted seating.

The lobby also features a Bordiglio marble floor, wood ceiling beams and a custom glass-blown chandelier. A collection of Nigerian Yoruba Crowns and a display case filled with minerals from around the world, including sulfur and pink opal, add unique accents to the décor. Rose displays photographs taken on her travels throughout the corridors and central hotel staircase.

The hotel’s 140 guestrooms are clad with patterned drapes, Frette linens and bespoke artwork. Carrera marble finishes and custom furniture round out the design with a home-like feel, again drawing on the Hygge concept.
